Disaster risk and sustainable development: Reducing vulnerability to natural hazards

Yasemin Aysan, UNDP, addressed linkages between development and disasters. She noted that the level of vulnerabilty to disasters in developing countries is very high, and that "low human development countries" are the most vulnerable, both in terms of human and economic losses. She outlined socioeconomic and socio-ecological factos that contribute to vulnerability.
